This week on the Arrow of Time we do a stumble through (literally) of the Doctor Who series 8 finale, \xe2\x80\x9cDeath In Heaven.\xe2\x80\x9d To make this grand finale more grand we decided to double the amount of people on the podcast to a whopping eight! Join Joseph, Matt, Gabe and Dave, as they are joined by Kirby, Conrad, Sean, and the ever delightful Ivan. Was breaking their four person limit a mistake? \xe2\x80\xa6Or the BEST decision ever!!! Out of all of the reveals to come from \xe2\x80\x9cDark Water,\xe2\x80\x9d the biggest has to be that people don\xe2\x80\x99t know who the master is. They obviously don\xe2\x80\x99t listen to our podcast! If they did, they might even know who the Rani is, and share our disappointment at Moffat\xe2\x80\x99s tendency to reintroduce new things. Still, we don\xe2\x80\x99t have much bad to say about this penultimate episode. And of course, since this story is a two-parter, speculation abounds once more! What will the big finale twist be? Clara is the Doctor? The Doctor is the Master!? Everything is exactly as it seems!?! Yeah, probably.

    \n

Just what we needed, an episode that features one of our \xe2\x80\x9cfavorite\xe2\x80\x9d things, right up there with the production \xe2\x80\x9cstyle\xe2\x80\x9d of Steven \xe2\x80\x9cMoffat.\xe2\x80\x9d \xe2\x80\x9cIn the Forest of the Night\xe2\x80\x9d starts off on the right foot with a William Blake reference, but then quickly becomes full of children, likely with sticky Jammie Dodger hands. There are also lots and lots of trees (at least four), but mostly nothing happens, so we end up speculating wildly about the next episode. Missy is the Rani? The Rani is the Master!? Clara is Handles!?! We\xe2\x80\x99ve got to be right someday!

The new guy is two for two! Jamie Mathieson quickly shoots up the Doctor Who episode writing charts with \xe2\x80\x9cFlatline!\xe2\x80\x9d Sure, this may have one of those this-has-never-happened-before- except-the-time-it-did type situations, but he\xe2\x80\x99s just channeling Moffat. And for all of Stevie-boy\xe2\x80\x99s big talk, Matheison actually delivers monsters that make you run for the back of the couch! The metaphorical couch. In your mind. Some creatures evolve to have perfect hunting. Some get perfect defense. Here at the Arrow of Time we have evolved perfect drinking. Whilst practicing that trait we watch \xe2\x80\x9cListen\xe2\x80\x9d and join the Doctor in wondering if anything has perfected hiding (Harry Potter seems pretty good, but that\'s a different podcast). Will Steven Moffat succeed in overcoming his hackery, or will this be Season Leaf Part Two? The verdict: three out of four podcasters agree that this is an episode to experience while hiding behind your soda. I mean sofa. I mean beer.

Robin Hood and Little John running through the TARDIS, Oo-De-Lally, Oo-De-Lally, golly what a day! And golly what a podcast! The four are once again reunited to talk about Robot of Sherwood. The episode, not the one robot, because there were several robots. I think that might be false advertising. I\xe2\x80\x99m not sure, but what I do know is that we spat out quite a podcast, in record time for an episode. We might as well be splitting arrows here!

In this episode Matt and Kelley talk about how a new Who-er can safely traverse the multitude of classic episodes and not be overwhelmed with filler like repeated check-ins in to see if Barbara and Ian are OK, onscreen fiddling with ropes, or shopping for cat food for 10 minutes. This is a beginners guide to classic Who. Enjoy!

A famous person once said that the only constant is change. Being the hack original thinker that he is, Steven Moffat has taken up that mantra and vows to shake things up in Series Eight. We discuss this, a (decidedly short) brand new teaser trailer, some upcoming guest stars who have never been on the show before, the first musician to ever be in an episode and loads more! In keeping with the change theme, we also introduce some new tangents!

We can hardly believe it\xe2\x80\x99s been nine years since the Ninth Doctor first graced our TV screens! In honor of this momentous occasion, we thought that we would try something new: a retrospective on all of the Doctors! We love talking about them! They\xe2\x80\x99re all fantastic, even Crotchety Grumpmire the First and Freakadoo Weirdson the Sixth (not their real names, obvs). So settle in, grab a gin and tonic, rum and Coke, or some dynamic combination thereof, and enjoy as we take you through all of space and time again for the first time.

    \n

A retrospective of this nature just wouldn\xe2\x80\x99t be complete without some sort of visual element, so thankfully user Sam Vestey has compiled video of all the Doctors for this week\xe2\x80\x99s WhoTube, \xe2\x80\x9cCelebrating 50 Years of American Doctor Who\xe2\x80\x9d - http://youtu.be/bCv5o7n_mtk

New-old monster-enemies! The recently revealed Ms. Delphox is described as the most sinister villain yet: a banker! Great social commentary there, writers, really stickin\xe2\x80\x99 it to the man with that one. This episode also features another edition of our book corner, whimsically named The Who-ey Decimal System, in which Dave discusses The Humanism of Doctor Who by David Layton. • \n
    • Companions in general
    • \n
    • Doctor Who\xe2\x80\x98s schedule
    • \n
    • Pros and cons of a changing fan base
    • \n
    • Is Stephen Moffat going to leave because he\xe2\x80\x99s a big whiner who says that he doesn\xe2\x80\x99t have enough time to work on anything but Doctor Who even though there\xe2\x80\x99s only like a dozen episodes a year and besides it\xe2\x80\x99s his own fault that it takes so long anyway

At the Arrow of Time, we may have given Steven Moffat a bit of grief from time to time about his tenure as showrunner. You know that dream where you go to church, but make the beginner\xe2\x80\x99s mistake of not wearing clothes? Well hold on to your trousers, because it just became The Most Awkward Doctor Who Plot Device, Ever! In the ostensible Christmas special \xe2\x80\x9cThe Time of the Doctor,\xe2\x80\x9d Steven Moffat borrows heavily from everything he\xe2\x80\x99s ever written and some things he hasn\xe2\x80\x99t, and then throws in a dash of implied/not-so-implied nudity just to angry up the fans. Christmas is in jeopardy (the town, not the holiday), all of his enemies have returned, and the Doc\xe2\x80\x99s running around starkers! This really is a weird thing to be focusing on around Christmas (the holiday, not the town).

The Doctor Who 50th special had a couple of Doctors in it, which, you know, cool. It\xe2\x80\x99s still a bit disappointing that the other nine (not counting the one we didn\xe2\x80\x99t know about) were left high and proverbially dry. Enter Big Finish and their audio drama \xe2\x80\x9cThe Light at the End.\xe2\x80\x9d Every other surviving Doctor, minus Eccleston, plus some very good voice doubles, gets together to tell a story without all those pesky visuals getting in the way. No matter how gray or round they might now be, it\xe2\x80\x99s easy to imagine each Doctor in their prime. Well, maybe not so much Colin Baker, he sounds a bit jowly.

Well, that and the podcast, there\xe2\x80\x99s lots of talking there, I\xe2\x80\x99m sure.

Our WhoTube this week is another fine
    \nBabelcolour tribute called \xe2\x80\x9cThe Little Man\xe2\x80\x9d:

Also, here is the Stonehenge speech
    \nread by McCoy, as mentioned:

Also also, it flew under the radar, but we just passed our third podcast anniversary. So, hooray!

Get your kicks with Doc number six! This week we cover Colin Baker, who despite all available evidence is not, in fact, colorblind. He manages to clear most of the hurdles during his tenure, from producer John Nathan-Turner\xe2\x80\x99s ineptitude to Perry\xe2\x80\x99s bizarre moon accent. His time in the Doctor\xe2\x80\x99s shoes may be a mixed bag, but don\xe2\x80\x99t go strangling your companion just yet! Three out of four podcasters agree: Colin Baker\xe2\x80\x99s all right.

I\xe2\x80\x99m running out of ways to introduce Babelcolour\xe2\x80\x99s tributes so here\xe2\x80\x99s \xe2\x80\x9cBabelcolour Tribute \xe2\x80\x93 A Coat of Many Colours\xe2\x80\x9d: http://youtu.be/tu2061ieHSc

This week we dive into Five! Peter Davison\xe2\x80\x99s his name, and cricket\xe2\x80\x99s his game (which apparently is like baseball by way of M.C. Escher). Following on the heels of Tom Baker, Davison had big shoes to fill. Does he have enough soul to get our support or should I stop trying to shoehorn puns in here? The former is easily answered by listening in to our latest podcast, and the latter is a resounding yes.

We\xe2\x80\x99re back for more with Four! This week we don our scarves and look back at that perennial fan favorite, Thomas Eugene Stewart Baker. This is one Doctor that always puts on a good show, whether he\xe2\x80\x99s saving space and time with a bag of Jelly Babies or just gadding about the galaxy. And he has some pretty great companions too! So listen to us try to do Baker justice in under ninety minutes and decide for yourself whether he is a great Doctor, or the greatest Doctor (at least until Tennant shows up).

We may have gone down this WhoTube path before, but by Jove, it\xe2\x80\x99s too good not to give another go. Enjoy Tardisgirlfrance\xe2\x80\x99s \xe2\x80\x9cTom Baker Doctor Who being childish sometimes\xe2\x80\x9d: http://youtu.be/KRDPb3P0Qw0

You said it couldn\xe2\x80\x99t be done (and you may still be right), but we continue to churn out our weekly reviews of all the Doctors (and some other stuff, too). This being the third week, we examine that Intergalactic Man of Mystery, Jon Pertwee. Dapper and dandy, he\'s pretty handy with his sonic screwdriver. And his car is swell, too.

    \n

Babelcolour\xe2\x80\x99s back, and this time it\xe2\x80\x99s personal. If you see only one Third Doctor tribute this week, make sure it\xe2\x80\x99s \xe2\x80\x9cThe Action Hero\xe2\x80\x9d: http://youtu.be/ENg0N-EC07c

    \n

And finally, join Jon Pertwee as he teaches us Splink, the safest way to cross the street since you won\xe2\x80\x99t be able to remember any of it and will just stay home instead: http://youtu.be/_r1UiNZ3G4Y

We go from curmudgeonly grandpa to cosmic hobo this week as we enter round two of our Top Eleven Doctors of All Time (in Chronological Order). Patrick Troughton brought a lot to the role, including his sense of whimsy and ability to walk ten feet without getting winded. And there\xe2\x80\x99s a flute in there somewhere apparently? In any case, we use \xe2\x80\x9cThe Mind Robber\xe2\x80\x9d and \xe2\x80\x9cSome Other Episodes, Probably\xe2\x80\x9d to take a good look back at the Second Doctor.
