Hey Who fans and welcome to episode 169. It\'s a solo Garry outing for our last show this year so without further ado...\n\n\nGarry is flying solo this week as Adam has already departed for his Christmas travels and it\'s also a different format than usual, partly due to no decent news or merch at the time of recording. So on this week\'s show:\n\nWhat has Garry been up to, the year in review for Doctor Who in general and the podcast, Q&A and plans for 2018.\n\nAs it\'s the last show of 2017 I\'d like to get soppy if I may and say that this year has been another brilliant year for us and that\'s all down to you. It would be a pretty rubbish show if we didn\'t hear back from you or converse with you on the interwebs about Who. Your listenership and interaction, whether it\'s saying hi on Twitter, sending us pics of your merch and conventions or sending in reviews, is what keeps us coming back every week. Hey Who fans and welcome to episode 168. Some cool news, one piece of merch and our review of The Edge of Destruction awaits...\n\nThe News\n\nThe regeneration stories for all the modern Doctor\'s (yes, even McGann) will be available on BBC iPlayer from 16th Dec, the advanced screenings of Twice Upon a Time across the north of the UK gets a huge response, the studios in Cardiff get a kit upgrade for a more filmic look for series 11, one lucky bidder will get lunch with Russell T Davies and finally, we mention the broadcast times for Twice Upon a Time.\n\nMerch Corner\n\nDalek Tat throws us this week - Robert Harrop releases a limited edition pewter Zygon.\n\n"The Edge of Destruction" Review\n\nWith the hype surrounding the 1st Doctor back for Christmas we decided to drag out a Hartnell story for review and what better to discuss than this cheeky two-parter from series 1. Strange, quirky and definitely interesting, how do we feel about this story that almost feels like a play?\n\nDates for your diary\n\nWith Christmas looming and the inevitable holidays nearly here there will be times when the show is not on or slightly different:\n\n\n

  • \n
  • The show will return on Friday 5th January 2018 and the review will be Twice Upon a Time

Hey Who fans. We have a jam packed show this week with loads of news and merch plus our revisit of The TV Movie. Let\'s crack on!\nThe News\n\nThe big news that broke earlier in the week was Jodie Whittaker\'s new costume and TARDIS so we talk around that. McCoy is has joined the cast of children\'s show Sarah and Duck. Unfortunately Classic Who actor Scott Fredericks has passed away aged 74. Lastly, we\'re looking forward to a preview of Twice Upon a Time during this years Children in Need show.\n\nMerch Corner\n\nDalek Tat throws us this week - a gorgeous new 7th Doctor Collector\'s Edition gets a German release next month (see your article on that here), Koch Media have released their next The Doctors DVD - The William Hartnell Years, speaking of the First Doctor David Bradley is the cover for this month\'s Doctor Who Magazine and there\'s a new board game that\'s just launched called Time of the Daleks.\n\n"The TV Movie" Review\n\nAnother Marmite story this one. The first time round we gave it respectable scores (a 7 and an 8) as we\'re actually fans of the movie, especially it\'s soundtrack and of course, McGann as The Doctor. This time round and with a release to blu ray since our last review, does it still warm our hearts or are we slithering away like goo\n\nThank you so much as always for listening and sending us your reviews. Revisits Month keeps on rolling next week where we\'re looking at The TV Movie so grab those dvds/or blu rays! Until then have a super week and remember - Allons-y!'

Now seems like a good time to re-look at this often well viewed Dalek story as Garry\'s view of the 7th Doctor has changed dramatically over the past year. Same deal or has this been elevated to higher scores? All we know is - there\'s always room for unlimited rice pudding!\n\nThank you so much as always for listening and sending us your reviews. It\'s signed by Peter Capaldi, David Bradley, Mart Gatiss (who\'s donating the script) plus some others involved. \nThe News\n

Hate kicking off with sad news but we say goodbye to Trevor Martin who has passed away at the age of 87. Trevor played one of the Time Lords in Troughton\'s last story The War Games and then more famously went on to play The Doctor in the stage play Doctor Who and the Daleks in the Seven Keys to Doomsday. We also discuss a story regarding Series 11 episode count and run time.

    \nMerch Corner\n

That grumpy Dalek throws us this week - the upcoming 1st Doctor Funko Pop! is now up for pre-order, a new NYCC glow in the dark TARDIS from Titan and the unfinished 4th Doctor story Shada is getting the remaster/animation treatment.

    \n"Terminus" Review\n

Classic week is bringing us the 5th Doctor story Terminus. It\'s good to be spending time with Mr Davison as it\'s been a while but does this one provide more good Black Guardian action or does it drag on, and on, and on, and on?

\n"The Parting of the Ways" Review\n

It had to come at some point but we didn\'t want it to. We\'ve reached the end of our reviews for the 9th Doctor. Sad faces all round. Do we end on a high and praise the hard work of Chris, Billie, Russell and Julie (plus many more) or is it one of those finales?

Bessie is not going into storage after a long stint at the now closed Doctor Who Experience. Instead she\'s off to go on display at the Motor Museum in Beaulieu, Hampshire.

    \nMerch Corner\n

Dalek Tat this week brings us; a couple of unofficial books from Steve Cambden and his time on the show working in effects, The Tom Baker Years dvd is now on sale, the long waited The Memoir of Sydney Newman will be with us next month and two new alternate commentaries are released from Fantom Films.

    \n"Bad Wolf" Review\n

It had to happen one day. Yes, we\'ve started that sad walk into our final reviews for Chris Eccleston\'s time as The Doctor. We\'re looking at the series one finale part one - Bad Wolf. Dated TV references (for some), suspense, deaths, naked Captain Jack, transmats and surprises this episode has it all. Are we gripped to this final story or does the disc get swiftly evicted from our blu ray/dvd players?

    \n"The Horns of Nimon" Review\n

Series 17, a troubled time for Tom Baker\'s era with flailing budgets and not much love overall, can this story provide a nice surprise? We talk through everything but what about that score?

    No news this week.

    \nMerch Corner\n

The series 10 complete box set details released, another 2018 calendar and an awesome looking 1st Doctor Funko Pop! is on the way.

    \n"The Caretaker" Review\n

This is the last Capaldi story pre-series 10 for us to review. It\'s funny and emotional but is this often viewed "middle of the road" story enough for us to move up from that 5 score?

    \nThe News\n

Previous show runner Russell T Davies is awarded a Life Time Achievement Award and you could grab a signed script by Peter Capaldi (amongst other things) if you\'re quick. The DWAS, supported by Capaldi himself, have set up an auction on eBay to support Syrian Refugees in North London but it ends on 4th September so get in there if you can afford it.

    \nMerch Corner\n

A Mr. Huffle replica. Yep. That is all.

\n"The Enemy of the World" Review\n

Yes, one of our favourite Doctor\'s playing a dual role in this "James Bond-esque" thriller of a story. Enough to keep us going over the six parts or are the dodgy accents enough to make us pull the plug?

    \n"Nightmare in Silver" Review\n

We\'ve been putting this one off for ages but it\'s time to make a stand and crack on with reviewing this often beaten on 11th Doctor story. Is it a case of a re-watch giving us a different appreciation for it or does it remain as it\'s title suggests - a nightmare.

We wondered whether doing a Christmas Special in August would feel weird but seeing as this is actually quite light on festive meriment we\'re all good. The robot Santa\'s are back, TARDIS car chase, a giant spider and plenty of Doctor-Donna action. Are we feeling this story or are we left empty, like losing a Christmas cracker?

Not much this week apart from some chat around ratings for The Eaters of Light.

    \nMerch Corner\n

Dalek Tat has been busy this week and hands us a newly announce book in the Lethbridge-Stewart range, new t-shirts and hoody from Forbidden Planet(.com) and that Pop! Funko Rory/Centurion is now up for pre-order in the UK.

    \n"World Enough and Time" Review\n

Holy moly there\'s a lot to go through with this one. Who goes dark with horror undertones in this Moffat story. Mondasian Cybermen, black holes, creepy patients and John Simm (as if you didn\'t know already!). Has The Moff redeemed himself and given us a story we know he can deliver or are we left in silence chanting "pain, pain, pain...".

    \n

Thank you for listening as always and giving us your thoughts. The next show will be about the series 10 finale (yes, it\'s here already!) so get those reviews in. Until then have a great week and remember - Allons-y!

Big Blue Box Podcast - Episode 147

We can\'t believe series 10 is almost up! Does this week\'s ep review take out mind off that? We\'ll see but first...

    \nThe News\n

Doctor Who Adventures "pauses" publication, some Who actors have been honoured by the Queen, Delia Derbyshire gets honoured with a blue plaque and we talk the __Empress of Mars_ ratings.

    \nMerch Corner\n

Sir David Jacobi is returning as The Master for Big Finish, a new Clara Pop! Funko is coming as a SDCC exclusive, a new book, Doctor Who Tales of Horror will be out in time for Halloween, Titan announce the new Partners in Time collection and the Who/Mr. Men mashup continues with a 10th Doctor book coming this Christmas.

    \n"The Eaters of Light" Review\n

Death by Scotland! It\'s certainly a hostile place for our Tardis Team this week but what\'s with the music? Romans, Barbarians, scary monsters and crows. Some good ingredients but is it enough for a solid story or do we feel like it\'s a bit... cold?

    \n

Thank you for listening and sending us your reviews. Next week it\'s World Enough and Time which sounds intriguing so get your reviews in for that. Until then have a great week and remember - Allons-y!

    \nThe News\n

The Lie of the Land ratings (they\'re not that bad in context!), The Doctor Who Experience is looking for summer hosts as well as announcing a closure date (\xf0\x9f\x98\xad\xf0\x9f\x98\xad\xf0\x9f\x98\xad) and there\'s a special screening of Episode 11 in Cardiff.

    \nMerch Corner\n

Dalek Tat lets us know of a sweet deal - 6 Doctor Who Pop! Funko figures from Forbidden Planet Int and we talk about the new Draconian figure from Robert Harrop.

    \n"Empress of Mars" Review\n

We\'ve left the Monks (Moff) trilogy behind and it\'s back to a good old fun romp with the menacing Icccccccce Warriors who have a newly awakened Empress. A solid Gatiss story or are we left feeling cold?

    \n

Thank you so much for listening and getting in touch with your thoughts. Next week it\'s The Eaters of Light and we look forward to your reviews. Until then have a great week and remember - Allons-y!

Pretty light on news but we do have some viewing figures for Oxygen to talk through.

    \nMerch Corner\n

Very fitting.

    \n\xe2\x80\x9cExtremis\xe2\x80\x9d Review\n

This is it. The moment is series 10 when we take a shift in direction and find out who or what is in the vault, will the Doctor get his sight back and why Nardole is paired with the Doctor. Are we impressed with this one or are we lost in a convoluted timey-wimey maze?

    \n

Our Dalek friend failed us again this week with no new merch to speak of.

    \n\xe2\x80\x9cOxygen\xe2\x80\x9d Review\n

Doctor Who certainly leans on the \xe2\x80\x9cAlien-esque\xe2\x80\x9d vibe at times and this episode certainly felt that way. Lots of suspense and atmosphere but did we get into it like a snug smart-suit or are we left feeling the coldness of space?

    \n

Thank you as always you beautiful lot for listening and getting involved. Next week we\xe2\x80\x99ll be looking at the episode set to change the course of this series so far \xe2\x80\x93 Extremis so get your thoughts in for that. Until next time have a great week and remember \xe2\x80\x93 Allons-y!
